DU Studio and Made&Make Architects has jointly undertaken the Al-Asalah Destination Residential Project located in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. This is DU Studio's first overseas project since its establishment, marking the firm's official entry into the overseas design market.

【An "Authentic Land" Bridging Tradition and Modernity】

Al-Asalah (meaning “authenticity”) is located in a core area of Riyadh. Led by NHC (the Saudi National Housing Company), it is a large-scale comprehensive real estate development project. The master plan includes 66 buildings, encompassing 1,504 residential units, and integrates commercial services, residences, community amenities, and leisure facilities. It aims to create a livable community that combines traditional cultural heritage with modern living quality.

【Integration of Modularity and Diversity】

DU Studio is responsible for the interior design work in this project. The project employs four prototypes, utilizing modular design for efficient development while ensuring diversity and adaptability in unit layouts. Residential units are equipped with amenities such as leisure areas, swimming pools, and dedicated parking spaces. Throughout the design process, we conducted in-depth research into the local climate, culture, and lifestyle, striving to incorporate regional characteristics into the modern design and create a genuine, vibrant “spirit of place” that truly belongs to the locality.

Since its inception, DU Studio has been committed to creating spatial experiences with a “spirit of place.” Participation in this Saudi project is not only a significant milestone in the studio’s development journey but also a reflection of the professional value contributed by Chinese design teams in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.
